Enhancing E-Learning User Experience: A study for UI/UX
Client - Udemy
Sector - Education sector
Responsibilities - UX/UI Designer
Objective - Revamping Udemy's learning experience in the app
Project duration - 3 months
After primary and secondary research we found that the abundance of options often led to confusion and frustration, as a significant pain point for Udemy’s users. In a group of three, we conducted qualitative research to gather insight into user needs and behaviors.
These insights informed our UI/UX design, helping us create a more user-friendly course selection process.
We start by understanding users' needs and behaviours when purchasing online courses. Using the Double Diamond design process, we began with qualitative research to gather insights. We conducted user interviews and analysed different e-learning applications to identify similarities and differences.
Our affinity mapping based on the insights revealed that most users struggled with the search feature, highlighting this as the main problem along with several secondary issues. By synthesising these findings, we framed the problem and brainstormed ideas, categorising them on a prioritisation matrix.
Leveraging Udemy’s design system, we created user flows, wireframes, interface designs, and prototype animations for further user testing. Our proposed solutions included:
Clear categorisations of search features based on level, language, and price range
Displaying the number of available courses in search results
A reminder feature with customisable time settings (daily/weekly/monthly)
A discussion forum for questions and answers accessible to all users taking the course.
This project taught me the importance of thorough user research and the value of iterative design. By following the Double Diamond process, I learned how to effectively identify and address user pain points, ensuring that our solutions were both practical and user-centered.
