Redesigning Unilever’s Sales Learning App for 4,000+ Users
Client - Unilever Indonesia
Sector - Private sector
Responsibilities - Research & strategy, usability testing, information architecture, UX/UI and visual design, interaction design.
Objective - Redesign and optimise a training app to enhance engagement and usability for over 4,000 third-party salespeople across Indonesia.
Project duration - 1 year
In early 2021, I joined a multidisciplinary team at Unilever to improve a mandatory learning app used by third-party salespeople across Indonesia. Despite its potential, the app suffered from low engagement, limiting its effectiveness in supporting the sales team.
As the sole designer, I was responsible for leading the app’s complete redesign, ensuring it was both user-friendly and effective in meeting the needs of its users. I began by conducting surveys with thousands of salespeople and carrying out in-depth interviews to understand their motivations, challenges, and behaviours. By synthesising this data, I uncovered key insights that shaped the redesign strategy. I then developed prototypes at different fidelities, testing them with real users to refine the interface and functionality. Through usability testing, I ensured that the final design was intuitive, accessible, and tailored to the diverse needs of the sales team.
Within three months of launch, engagement increased by 97.3%, transforming the app into an essential tool for salespeople. Its improved design and functionality led to long-term adoption, strengthening Unilever’s training ecosystem and enhancing the productivity of thousands of users.
Although my role at Unilever ended, I continued collaborating with them as a vendor, further supporting the evolution of the app and related initiatives.
This experience reinforced my passion for data-driven UX research and inclusive design, demonstrating how thoughtful design solutions can drive meaningful impact.
